Mood of the season - Des Petit Hauts S16

Inspiration for Des Petit Hauts SS16 collection came from three intertwinning ideas: travels in Portugal, everyday moments and the film, The Lover, by Marguerite Duras. This resulted in an easy to wear collection of simple silks, cottons and soft knits, all of which were heavy with the Des Petit Hauts signature French feel.

Whilst in the town of Porto the DPH designers took inspiration from the strong colours around them. Intense blue tiles covering old buildings, lemons hanging on trees in the street and oranges piled up at the market. This translated into silk prints, chunky knitted cardigans and jumpers in bright red, pale chambray boyfriend shirts and red silk camisoles with scalloped edges to be worn under jumpers as the summer passes.

The theme of embracing the beautiful moments we experience every day; drinking tea from a vintage cup or stopping to look at leaves on trees sparkling in the sun shine, resulted in a print heavy group. Palms were printed on a vintage style navy cotton voile and also on white silk with shinning gold spots which provided a luxury dress for a special occasion. A tiger lying among leaves on a background of navy silk offers day dresses, shirts and a jumpsuit. Spotted denim play suits and bold blue and white sweat tops were the perfect pieces for easy summertime dressing.

L'amant by Marguerite Duras came through as a simple, feminine group with garments made from natural materials: cotton, linen and silk and a simple colour palate of white, ecru and gold trim. Key pieces were a hand crocheted knit with gold thread trim, a cotton crepe dress with gold lace insert, soft linen easy to wear jackets and a crisp white shirt with lace panels.
