Ease Into Autumn

As the days begin to turn and the hints of a new season appear, getting dressed can start to feel a little tough. While it's not quite time to pull out the heavy pieces yet, and the opportunity to carry on with shorts or sandals feels too good to give up, high summer can now start to feel out of place especially with a cooler start/end to the day. To try and ease into this change over we're embracing the new colour palette from the autumn wares now arriving.

Styles we are reaching for are earthy, rich and punchy.  Whilst pieces are still lightweight, the colour palette is a transseasonal shift into grounding shades of fig and honey, cassis and chocolate, punctuated with high energy chartreuse and calming cobalt. 

Taster Tones

Anything you'd find in a foraging basket or autumn kitchen is the way to go. Ripe fig, rich honey, aromatic sage, bitter chocolate or coffee, and delicious, juicy berry and wine tones all add a sense of the changing season, whilst still being easy to style with a late summer wardrobe of pale denim, cream cottons or bleached out shorts.

From The Ground Up

Probably already in your wardrobe, these classic earthy foundation shades provide a rich palette to draw on. Deep browns work beautifully with natural textures like tan leather sandals in the final days of warmth, or try neutrals like stone and sand balanced against a palette of comforting soft greens.

Electric Pops 

A perfect balance for the saturated darker, moody palettes of autumn, punchy shades such as chartreuse were seen on the A/W catwalks and are surprisingly wearable for a British wardrobe when worked into soft whites, neutrals or accessories. Intense, colour rich classics such as cobalt remain a Mercantile favourite, recalling summer days under a clear sky.
