June 13 2017 – Mercantile London
As part of our current young designers series, focusing on fledgling businesses we took five minutes to sit down with Elodie of Frankie.
French born designer Elodie is now based in London, producing pieces from discovered vintage tapestries and treasure-finds. Each of which is completely unique and made with "great love".
Sum up Frankie in five words ?
Handcrafted, original, unique, vintage, up-cycled.
How did Frankie begin ?
During my fashion studies in France my love for all things vintage combined with a sense of British refinement began to develop in my work and this ultimately lead to Frankie.
I created my brand Frankie (my nickname) two and a half years ago with the idea of giving new life to vintage items. I started making bags with French vintage tapestry and jewellery from broken teacups. I also make customized vintage denim jackets with the same principle using old tapestries at the back and on the pocket. Each creation is totally unique!
What or who is inspiring you at the moment ?
Life, adventures, cities and naturally my talented boyfriend Nerone.
Last place you travelled to ?
Berlin, two days ago - such an inspiring city.
What's the one thing you always have in your Frankie bag ?
My phone, my red lipstick and a notebook
Less or more ?
More !
You are Parisian, can you tell us the secret to French style ?
I would say that French style is more a question of attitude and the way you can mix vintage pieces and easy classic.
You have 24 hours in East London, what would you do ?
I'll get a latte from Brooklyn Coffee and have a look around at the new pieces of street art in the area with my boyfriend. then shopping, mixing vintage shops with places like The Mercantile, with it's juicy selection! Then I'll go for dinner and drinks at Queen of Hoxton or for a wild BBQ in Victoria Park. After that, time to dance in Dalston I guess...!
What's your favourite piece from the current collection ?
I always wear my Frankie jacket and my flamingo envelope bag.
Where can we find Frankie ?
You can find Frankie on my website Frankie, in The Mercantile London, in Paris and Bordeaux. I also do makers market regularly in East London, stay tuned on my Instagram @frankie.handmade
