Women In Business // The Vely Soapery

March is Women's History Month and with International Women's Day on the 8th, we continue to highlight our creative, small brands with a Women in Business focus.

Below we chat with Halyna Velytok, Founder of The Vely Soapery, discussing her business startup experiences, advice for others and current inspirations.

Can you tell us a little about the beginnings of The Vely Soapery ?

The beginnings of The Vely Soapery came very naturally. I have always been into natural skincare and pure ingredients, especially essential oils. Their aroma and qualities have always amazed me. I remember being 6–7 years old and flipping through my mum’s newspaper cut-outs with homemade skincare recipes — secretly hoping I’d find the magic solution to get rid of my freckles!

During my maternity leave, I finally had the time to truly dive into soap making: learning, testing recipes, and researching the simple, high-quality ingredients I had always wanted to use in skincare. What started as personal curiosity and passion slowly evolved into something more.

What's the best piece of advice you have had in regards to running a business ?

There will always be downsides and low-energy days — and they pass, too. Just take it easy. And when you’re feeling on the edge, don’t hesitate to seek help. Allow yourself to take a break.

Where do you draw your inspiration from ?

My inspiration really depends on the project I’m working on. I love exploring old newspapers and magazine articles, digging into the history of the product I’m focusing on, and looking at packaging and design — sometimes going as far back as the Victorian era, which I’m really fascinated by! I also draw a lot from visiting museums and galleries, from travelling. And I really love Pinterest!

What is your favourite part of the creative process ?

Creating! You never really know what the end result will be. When I start thinking about a new product, I always begin with research — exploring the product itself and the ingredients I plan to use — which is by far the most exciting part for me. Then comes putting together mood boards for visuals, packaging, and the overall look and feel. Every step of the process, from the initial idea to seeing the finished product on the shelf, is equally interesting, important, and exciting.

Which other female led brands do you admire ?

I’m absolutely in love with everything Hannah Shkandrij does  — such delicate, thoughtful work, with so much care and attention put into every detail.

How would you spend a day away from work ?

Ooh, I’d turn off all my devices and just spend the day out in nature!

What would you like to see next for The Vely Soapery ?

I see The Vely growing with more truly needed, natural, and helpful products that are used every day — ones that make your skin and health radiant, and most importantly, leave no trace behind.
