Five minutes with...Decadorn

Five minutes with...Decadorn

This weeks Five minutes with... is chatting to Helen Bailey, the force and founder of East London stone jewellery brand Decadorn.

Which three words describe your brand?

Natural, individual and handmade.

Name your top three design influences?

Pinterest, Instagram and I’m hooked on interior magazines too.

What's your favourite piece from the SS16 collection for Valentine's?

The new Ocean Jasper limited edition pendant. It’s from the new premium 14ct gold fill collection which is much more delicate than the main range. The pendant is suspended on a fine chain and is polished so all the natural markings are showcased it is a beautiful stone and each piece totally unique.

What's your current go-to outfit?

Anything out of the laundry basket! I’m a working mum of a busy one year old so my outfits are quick and easy. If I am heading to meet a new boutique or a current stockist I will wear my & Other Stories mohair coat, it smartens up any outfit.

You have twenty-four hours in East London, what would you do?

Easy. Head to the flower market on Columbia Road, pop down to Broadway Market where some lucky friends live and go for a roast in the Marksman pub – the best in London. Go say hi to my friend with a fashion stall on Spitalfields Market, check out the new stock in Mercantile, then head to Aubin & Wills café for a coffee – and relax.

Current fashion obsessions?

I’m more into homeware. Currently I’m addicted to House Doctor products, I have a new Berber Moroccan style rug arriving next week. The house is also never without a burning candle, mainly Diptique but I do love a mini Parkminster candle from Mercantile. Decadorn will be bringing out a small collection of candles and homeware in the spring so watch this space!

Favourite Instagram account?

@Local_milk The photography is just beautiful. It gives me ideas on layout and colour palettes for new shoots.

Guilty crush?

Erm, James Martin, a Yorkshire man who can cook with lots of butter is a winner.

What new year resolution do you always make?

To buy a smoothie maker, still haven’t bought it.

Best life advice you've ever heard?

Stop wearing high heels; they will ruin your feet. My Mum was right.
